POSITION SUMMARY:

Protea Hotel Durban Umhlanga is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Kitchen General Attendant to join our Food and Beverage team. As a Kitchen General Attendant, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen area. Your responsibilities will include completing closing duties, cleaning equipment and work areas, restocking items, and ensuring adherence to cleanliness standards throughout the day.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete closing duties, including storing reusable goods, breaking down goods, cleaning equipment and areas, restocking items, turning off lights, locking doors, and completing daily cleaning checklist.
  • Set up, stock, and maintain work areas in the kitchen.
  • Inspect the cleanliness and presentation of all china, glass, and silverware before use.
  • Practice clean-as-you-go procedures to ensure continuous cleanliness of work areas.
  • Follow all company, safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to the manager.
  • Complete safety training and certifications as required.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance, adhering to uniform standards.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
  • Communicate with others using clear and professional language.
  • Answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with team members.
  • Support the team in reaching common goals and address concerns of other employees.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Demonstrate fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination in handling objects of varying size and weight.
  • Navigate different surfaces, including slopes, uneven or slippery surfaces, stairs, and service ramps.
  • Bend, twist, pull, stoop, and reach overhead and below the knees.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or hospitality setting is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and perform tasks for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
