Description

As a General Assistant, your role is pivotal in ensuring comprehensive customer service within the store. Your responsibilities include loading and merchandising stock, labeling shelf prices, and maintaining housekeeping standards in your designated area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area where the position is located.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure.

Job Description

Customer Service

  • Greet and acknowledge all customers while assessing their needs.
  • Provide accurate product information and guidance to customers.
  • Assist customers with any product-related inquiries.
  • Timely resolution of customer complaints.
  • Encourage add-on sales, such as suggesting paint brushes, thinners, etc., when customers purchase paint.
  • Ensure efficient customer service by loading customers’ purchases promptly and without delays.
  • Handle customers’ purchases with care to prevent damage to goods or vehicles.
  • Inform customers about additional services offered, including delivery options, bulk deposits, glass cutting, plan reading, credit programs, special orders, trusses, distant ordering, and VIC Customer Program.
  • Maintain certification in product knowledge.
  • Be readily available in the assigned aisle of responsibility.

Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean and obstacle-free area of responsibility.
  • Merchandise stock promptly upon receipt.
  • Ensure customers can enter and exit your aisle safely and without inconvenience.
  • Accurate shelf price labeling within your designated area.
  • Complete required checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules as necessary when on duty.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Adhere to safety (OHSA) compliance, including the use of safety gear, to ensure the safety of customers and staff within your area of responsibility.
  • Merchandise stock safely in racks and bulk areas, allowing customers and colleagues to move safely within the store.
  • Report any discrepancies to the Store Manager promptly.

Ready for Business

  • Comply with “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” protocols as per the CB Way.

Loss Prevention and Security

  • Identify and address any gaps in product displays and investigate their causes, reporting any concerns to management.
  • Be vigilant for suspicious behaviors or individuals and promptly report any suspicions to management.
  • Do not load products for customers without proof of purchase or required documentation.
